Gingerbread Cookie Fun!

Christmas is a special time of the year as we celebrate Christ’s birth. We celebrate in so many ways all month long as we anticipate Christmas. There are carols, crafts, stories, fingerplays, recipes, and the list goes on and on! It almost feels like there isn’t enough time for all the fun!  Last week, the Elephant class baked and decorated gingerbread cookies. Watching the mixture transform as each ingredient was added was magical. It smelled so delicious!

The children loved measuring and mixing the ingredients.

Once the cookies had baked and cooled, it was time to decorate them! The children loved this part of the activity as they added colorful sprinkles to make their gingerbread man unique!

Baking is a lot of fun, but there are many developmental skills we are working on too.  This science activity is perfect for young children because it teaches the basics of cause and effect. The sooner children learn that actions have results, the sooner they can begin to comprehend big picture ideas about the world around them.  Baking is also a kid-friendly sensory activity which develops special fine motor skills through scooping, stirring, measuring and pouring.  Baking is kid approved and brings about the yummiest results!

To learn more about the fun activities we do everyday, stop by and visit! Schedule a tour—we’d love to show you around!
