How The Little Lamb Began

The Little Lamb began its first day of operation on August 17, 1987. It was a hectic day with the typical first-day- of-school jitters mixed into the aroma of a brand new building. It was a day filled with promise. Teachers and children. alike smiled with delight as they entered the shiny new school for the first time. That day was also the end of a long, faithful journey that began as a vision in the mind of, Debbie Duke, a life long resident of Carmel.

In 1984, Chuck and Debbie Duke faced a child care crises all too familiar to parents. The family friend who had been providing day care in her home was moving out of state leaving the Duke children, son Caleb, (then 3) and daughter Kelsey (then 5) in need of new arrangements. Chuck and Debbie began touring local daycares. With Debbie’s degree in Early Childhood Development and Chuck and Debbie’s experience in Sunday School teaching, they had definite ideas on the best atmosphere for their children. Their search was very frustrating.

When their daughter Kayley was born in 1985, Debbie, still not pleased with the level of the children’s daycare, decided to write a business plan and raise financing to offer daycare for other families who recognized the importance of a faith based education. With the help of her husband and family friends, the plan was completed and a local bank agreed to finance the project.

Since that August day in 1987, hundreds of children have attended The Little Lamb, including all five of the Duke children! The Little Lamb has earned a solid reputation from the ongoing successes of former students, as a result of this academically strong, life preparatory education.
